September update

Hello adoring fans!

Mommy's gotten behind on the whole updating you thing, so I guess I have to do it.  Daddy said he'll help me, but, you know how he is.  He said he'd help Mommy, too.

So, I think i'll just tell you about my September.  It was quite a month for me, and included two trips away from my bed, doggies, and regular stomping grounds.

First, we went to these big waterfalls called Iguazu.  They were BIG!  Daddy did some research, and apparently these are some of the tallest and widest falls in the world.  They don't have as much water as Niagara, but they're still really amazing.  Mommy and Daddy took video over the three days that we were there, and put it on the YouTube.  You should be able to find them here: http://www.youtube.com/user/reutlin.  They took lots of pictures, too, and of course many of them are of me.  They haven't uploaded them, yet, but told me they would soon.

We stayed at this really nice hotel in the actual park, which was good for me, because I could take a nap after we went to the park in the morning, and then we could go out again.  And they had stairs.  Lots, and lots of stairs.  I liked the stairs, and climbed them a lot!  The people at the hotel were really nice, too.  They washed my dirty sleep sack and clothes clean after I threw up on the flight up, and got it all back to us before I even had to go to bed.  Mommy and Daddy were happy, too, because they didn't charge us for it!

The second time I left was for a 10 day trip to visit all my grandparents!  I got to see Grandma, Grandpa, Mimi, Grandpop, and my greatgrandmothers, too.  In Pennsylvania and New Jersey, I got to see my aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends, and even met my newest cousin, Baby Bryce.  It was a busy week.  Then, when I got back to DC, I went to Rosh Hashanah services for the first time (they were kind of boring, so I left and took Daddy with me), and I got to attend a famous Jacob Rosh Hashanah dinner, but I was sick, so went to bed early.  I did get to see my great aunt Elaine for the first time.  But, back to the dinner.  Grandma cooked for 30 people, and, from what Daddy says, another 10 people could have come.  There was all sorts of goodies.  I was happy, because I got to see MORE friends and family.

It was a busy month, and it was good to see everybody!

If you didn't get a chance to see me on this trip, maybe you will soon.  Daddy says we're probably going back for a few weeks in December and January.  You should look forward to it!

Ok, time for me to find Perro and get some sleep so I can wake up Mommy and Daddy tomorrow morning!

Ethan's First Birthday!

I know, I know, we got lazy with the blog! To be fair, we had some big events this spring to take up some time. We had Ethan's first birthday and our big trip back to the States. But, we are back and here is the first update in a while.

For Ethan's first birthday we had a nice party with our friends and some of their kids over to celebrate. There was tons of food, drink and of course, cake!

Ethan, being pensive and not to mention annoyed by the stupid hat his mom made him wear. He decides he will wear it for a couple of pictures, but after that it is coming off!

Ahhhh! That is better, no more chocolate on Ethan's face and the sugar high is kicking in! Let's go play! Happy Ethan again!

Ethan and the Doggies

Ethan likes to "pet" G&G, which really means a soft open handed hit on their backs or a grab of their ears.

For some reason, the dogs are very patient with Ethan - I am sure it has nothing to do with the food Ethan slips to them whenever he eats in his high chair....

Dog Walk!

A couple of weeks ago we participated in a 3K dog walk. The walk was around one of the city parks on an absolutely gorgeous early fall afternoon. Those dogs under ten pounds only had to do 1.5K, but out pups were up for the 3K...and then some.

Everyone received bright yellow shirts (even the doggies).

After the walk there were performances and different booths to check out in the park. Ethan enjoyed dancing to the music on our shoulders.

Future Consular Officer?

Nope, Ethan was not working the visa line! He did have a doctor's appointment at the embassy though. When Steve came down to see us and still had his headphones with him, Ethan wanted to check them out.

Last Steak in Town

We were able to go out for one last steak with Mom and Courtney on their last day in town. Here are some pictures from our yummy meal!

San Telmo and El Ateneo

Still blogging out fun visit with Mom and Courtney! Here are some more photos from their last couple of days here. Above is a picture of San Telmo during the Sunday market. It was hot, crowded and lots of fun. There were tons of stalls and shops open with all kinds of different antiques, jewelry, books and gewgaws for sale!

There is a chain of bookstores here called El Ateneo, and one of their stores in BA is actually in an old theater!

There are books on all of the levels overlooking the main area, and the bookstore's cafe is located on the stage.

What more could Aunt Courntey want? A bookstore, a theater and a handsome nephew to do a little dance with!

Tigre

Ethan here - so, over the last weekend Mimi and Aunt Courtney were in town we did so much! On Saturday we went to Tigre, which is a town north of the city that you can get to by train. You can take a "tourist" line that stops along the way. We stopped at a flea market stop where there was lots of things to see.

After that we walked all around Tigre, which is right on the river delta. A lot of people get around here by boat. They have ambulance boats, school "bus" boats and even ice cream delivery boats!

It was really hot and sunny that day, and I did not want to wear my hat....so Mom put suntan lotion right on my head....how embarrassing

Residence and Zoo

On the 2nd Friday Mom and Courtney were in town, Steve made an appointed for a tour for us at the Ambassador’s residence. The residence, called the Palacio Bosch is one 3,500 properties that the State Department owns or has under long term lease, but is only one of twenty that has been designated as historically, architecturally or culturally significant.

The building went under major renovations in the mid nineties and was the State Department’s first totally historic restoration. The architect who is in charge of the building and any work that needs to be done there explained all of the work and research that went into the renovation.

After the tour, we all walked to the zoo. The BA zoo is a little run down in terms of its buildings, but it does have a good international reputation for its conservancy programs. Another cool thing about the zoo is that they allow some of the local animals to roam around the zoo. Check out the pictures on the Picasa link under “M&C Visit – Residence and Zoo”

Time to Tango

One of the nights Mom and Courtney were here we roped out friends Annie and Mike into watching Ethan and the four of us headed out to a tango show! So much fun!

The show was in San Telmo, and in the basement of a cool old building. Our seats were nice, the food was yummy and the show was very cool.

A Nice Day in Recoletta

Ethan here! I thought I might blog a little bit about Mimi and Aunt Courtney's visit. One of the days they were here we went to Recoletta for the day. First we went to a nice outdoor cafe and Mom, Mimi and Court had a nice, relaxing breakfast. I napped.

Afterwards the ladies (with me still asleep) toured around the cemetery.

Afterwards we walked to the Art Museum, which was really nice (and pink). I liked to look at the modern artwork the best! Then it was off to lunch - what a fun day out!
